What is Punanti ?

What is Punanti ? Punanti Hostel has a simple concept; we aim to provide the best lodging with the best view to the adventurers coming to Ecuador. If you are a rock climber, a hiker, or a mountaineer, you will find that we are the perfect place for you.

We have two types of accommodation, one shared dorm (up to 8 people) and two private cabins (up to 4 people each).

We are located in the paradise, just in front of the Cayambe Volcano.

HOW TO GET HERE ?

Fresh homemade food

We prepare our own bread for the breakfasts, and will cook the dinners with fresh local ingredients. Let us know if you have any allergies or intolerances.

We support local community

We love the community surrounding us and help them improve their lifestyle. We made collaboration for the rock climbing routes and hot springs.

We respect the environment

Everything here was built to have the less impact possible on the nature and the local environment. You will see this in the construction material.

Located in the paradise

We are located in front of the Cayambe Volcano. The perfect place to acclimatize to altitude to climb higher volcanoes and to do the best hikes.

From Quito

Quito to Cayambe

Ofelia Terminal - Bus every 30 min.
Time: 1h30-2h

Cayambe to La Chimba

The bus for La Chimba is located in the same terminal - Bus every 30min.
Time: 50 min

La Chimba to Punanti

Stop at the football field in La Chimba. Next to it there is a taxi company.
Time: 15 min

From Otavalo

Otavalo to Cayambe

At the bus terminal in Otavalo - Bus every 10 min (from 04h00 to 19h00)
Time: 1h

Cayambe to La Chimba

The bus for La Chimba is located in the same terminal - Bus every 30min.
Time: 50 min

La Chimba to Punanti

Stop at the football field in La Chimba. Next to it there is a taxi company.
Time: 15 min

From Ibarra

Ibarra to Olmedo Gas station

From the Ibarra terminal at gate 6, buses leave for Cayambe and pass through Olmedo. (Bus every 30 min)
Time: 1h30

Olmedo Gas station to Punanti

There are two options
1. Walk 15 min to the Taxi company at La Chimba and from there take a taxi, duration 15 min.
2. Take a taxi to Punanti, duration 20 min.

From Colombia

Ipiales bus terminal to the border

Bus Collective or take a taxi

Border to Tulcan bus terminal

Tulcan to Ibarra

Tulcan Terminal (Bus every 1h)

Arriving/departing from Punanti from/to the South without passing through Quito

Machachi to/from Cayambe

With the company Flor del Valle it is possible to go from/to Machachi - Bus every 1h (from 4h45 to 17h45)

You have to get to this point and follow the path for 10-15 minutes.

 

WARNING: Don't put Punanti Hostel GPS point directly, as the final destination, because the road has not been traced to our place yet. So you will take the wrong road.

Important information

The weather can be very cold (adapt your clothes accordingly).

  • It is recommended to reach us with a high car (small cars can also get here, but it's more difficult, especially during the wet season).
  • We are located at 3600 m.
  • Each lunch will have an extra cost of 5$.
